"Everything's an Argument" -- Textbooks Needed for AP Class
My students need "Everything's an Argument" textbooks!
My Students & School
Thomas R. Proctor High School is an urban, diverse school of 3,000+ students in the heart of Central New York. A typical classroom can have students from Myanmar, Somalia, Bosnia, and Belarus learning side-by-side with students who have never left the state. It makes for quite the interesting teaching and learning experience!
Our Advanced Placement Language and Composition English 11 classroom serves students who are the offspring of newly arrived refugees and the children of the former mayor!
Our school is, even by NYS's own calculations, drastically underfunded. The school, built for 2,000 students, is incredibly overcrowded. Teachers share classrooms and students do not have copies of their own textbooks. There is one computer lab to serve the entire student population. AP English 11 currently relies on teacher and student-generated materials. Even still, my goal is to make my classroom a safe space where students can reach their potential!
I am hoping to buy a class set of "Everything's an Argument" which will provide my students with the rhetorical background and readings they need to succeed not only in my class but in college and in life! While I have tried my best to secure the textbooks, I was told it simply was not in the budget. The cost per text book is about $58. I hope to purchase a set of 30 books for my classroom. Please help me pay for these textbooks for my class. AP English students deserve textbooks too. --- Rebecca Nix, AP English Teacher, proctor high School, Utica, NY.
